Flat Classroom Project Resources


Introduction


One of the aims of this collaborative project is to use Web 2.0 tools to enhance and support student-centred learning between classrooms in diverse locations. The tools listed below are some of the options available for teachers and students to use to share files, communicate using audio and video and to share ideas regularly. Also, to learn how to use the features of a wiki try the wikispaces help, or this wiki for quickstart information about using multimedia.

Communication on this project


Using Evoca


To easily exchange messages and reflections throughout the project it is suggested that all students set up an account with Evoca.com.
The first task is to record an audio file to introduce yourself to your partner.

Conversations


Conversations should occur on the discussion tab for your main project page (the page you are taken to when you click on your project title in the topics list). You may type messages or link voicemails at this location. It helps to have one primary location. Remember, do not release private or personal information here. Skype and other personal information will be exchanged through direct contact between the teachers and all issues should occur there.
It is expected that there will be regular/daily conversations on the wiki discussion tab as you develop your project together. It is essential that you check back at least once a day for updates and that you also use the other means of communication provided (email, Skype) to get to know your partner and deliver messages and greetings.

Video

Making the Personal Video


As a finale to the project each student is asked to create a personal video. This is to be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes in length. Here is a video to help you get started with format and ideas for your personal video.



Sharing Podcasts and Videos


To send a file such as a podcast or a video for inclusion in the final multimedia artifact for Julie Lindsay and/or her students please follow these steps:
  1. Make sure your podcast is in .mp3 format. Your video can preferably be in .avi or .mpg format.

  1. Send it to the appropriate person:
    • For Julie Lindsey - Send your MP3 file to flatclassroom@podOmatic.com
    • For Vicki Davis - Send your file to coolcatteacher@gmail.com through dropload.
      • Note: If your file is larger than 100 MB, you should Zip it using winzip or by using the zip feature on a PC for Mrs. Davis.

Downloading, Editing, and Citing Video
